Our Story
Nomadschoolers was born from real conversations with real families.

In 2022, co-founder Nikolaj Astrup founded Traveling Village — an intentional traveling community for nomadic families. Through years of deep conversations with hundreds of families from across the world, the same desires kept emerging. Stronger community. More meaningful education. A simpler way to find alternatives to traditional schooling.

Nikolaj also saw how hard it was for schools and communities to reach the right families. Finding the right people, communicating values clearly, and building trust takes time and visibility.

Together with long-time collaborator Mads Lontoft, Nikolaj built Nomadschoolers — a shared, meaningful tool that benefits the entire ecosystem. Both families searching for alternatives and the people building them. Today Nomadschoolers lists 150+ programs across 30+ countries. A global directory built on lived experience, genuine passion, and a belief that better systems emerge when people can find each other more easily.
